Jacksonville, FL is one of the fastest growing cities in Florida. Thornton Park Apartments was being developed off of a new roadway called Gate Parkway West. The back of the property was against SR 202 – J. Turner Blvd, one of the main routes to the beaches. The site had several challenges. The main challenge was that many areas of the site had wetlands that could not be disturbed. These areas stayed wet at all times and had marginal foundation soils. Since many of the walls had to be built around the border of the wetlands, construction was going to be difficult.

With the success between Epoch Properties and Synergy on the Delaney Park @ Southwood project in Tallahassee, FL, Epoch Properties selected Synergy again for this project. It was Synergy’s design/build expertise that helped keep the project moving. With most of the areas where the walls were to be constructed holding water and the foundation soils being soft, Synergy, along with the project geotechnical engineer, worked together to develop an installation process that would overcome the site challenges. Through the use of fabric and stone, the walls were constructed on top of the challenging soils without delay. The project was completed in August 2006.
