In one of the
newer section of Tallahassee referred to as Southwood, several new
communities are being developed. The main artery around Tallahassee,
Capital Circle, is being widened through this area bringing rapid
growth along with it. Delaney Park is one such development that
is located right next to Capital Circle and near the entrance to
the Southwood. It will consist of several high-end apartment buildings
and a clubhouse. The land on which it is being built on has several
grade changes and an existing pond area that needed to be preserved.
In an effort to maximize the use of the property, several walls
were required on the project. The total amount of wall required
on the original set of plans was around 29,000 sf.
The Owner was
interested in looking for ways to save money on the project. During
the bid process, Synergy worked closely with the Owner to explore
ways to eliminate the amount of wall required at the site. The final
amount of wall that was installed was around 18,000 sf, down from
a bid quantity of 29,000 sf. This reduction in area came about through
the Owner and Synergy working with the project Engineer to discover
parts of the site that could be modified to eliminate some of the
walls. This resulted in a savings of over $150,000 to the Owner.
The Owner liked
the design/build approach that Synergy was able to provide for the
segmental block walls. Since there were walls added and deleted
and modified during the course of the project, Synergy’s quick
response time allowed the wall construction to continue without
delay. The project was completed in the Spring of 2006
