Publix is
one of the leading grocery store chains in the Southeast U.S.,
but they had yet to build any of their stores in Southern AL.
Shortly after starting construction of a store in Orange Beach,
AL, they decided to add a store in Fairhope, AL and another in
Daphne, AL. The store in Fairhope would be part of a new shopping
center being developed by Regency Centers, a large commercial
developer out of Florida. The site being developed had a significant
change in elevation from one side of the property to the other.
In order to achieve the most amount of leasing area and required
parking, the design engineer (Volkert & Associates) utilized
several retaining walls throughout the site.
Synergy was
selected by Summit to provide the design and construction services
for the walls on this project. Synergy was able to design the
walls in-house in a timely fashion and provide full construction
drawings for the walls to Summit. The plans were approved for
construction by Volkert on the first submittal. Another benefit
of using Synergy was that when required, Synergy would attend
meetings between the GC and the City of Fairhope to provide answers
to any questions related to the design and/or construction of
the walls. Having in-house engineering allowed Synergy to provide
this service. Together, Summit and Synergy were able to get the
walls built without any delays or problems . This was a result
of good communication efforts by both companies. The final layout
of the walls resulted in 5 walls totaling approximately 12,000
sf with a maximum height of 21’. The walls were successfully
completed in the Fall of 2008
