SR 12 is a
major roadway that leads in and out of downtown Nashville. One section
of the roadway passes over I-65 and TDOT decided that the bridge,
roadway, and on and off-ramps needed to be widened. The design prepared
by TDOT required that a retaining wall be added along the SW corner
of the project where the roadway and on-ramp for I-65S were being
widened.
Synergy was
selected by the Contractor to provide the design and construction
services for this project based on the competitive pricing provided
for a segmental block wall as compared to a concrete panel wall,
which was also considered by the Contractor. Synergy was able to
provide shop drawings that were approved by TDOT without any revisions
requested, which was a first for the Contractor who had used other
companies in the past that had required several design submittals
before getting approval from TDOT. The final layout of the wall
resulted in approximately 3,100 sf of retaining wall with a maximum
height of 10’. The project was successfully completed in the
Summer of 2010.
