The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) is located in Oxford, MS. It has been a popular destination for students looking to attend a quality SEC school. As the enrollment continues to increase, new multi-family developments are continually being constructed. One of the premier development companies in the southeast, Heritage Properties, Inc., decided to build an apartment complex on a parcel of land that had a grade change of almost 90 feet from the front entrance to the back corner of the site. This clearly required the use of retaining walls so that the site could be developed to accommodate the roads and building pads required.
Synergy was selected by Heritage Properties and Summit Industries to provide the design and construction services for the retaining walls on this project due to our ability to get the job done right. Synergy worked closely with the Contractor and the Engineer to adjust some of the wall layouts to accommodate the geogrid behind the walls. Synergy also provided savings on the project through the use of 2 wire form walls along the back of the property in lieu of concrete block walls. Having in-house engineering once again separated Synergy from the other wall “installers”. The project was being constructed at a rapid pace to try and have as many of the apartment units open as possible by the fall semester in 2014. Synergy was required to mobilize as many as 4 separate wall crews to the site at one time to work on the walls. The final layout of the walls resulted in 18 separate walls totaling approximately 34,000 sf with a maximum height of 12’. The walls on this project were successfully completed in about 2.5 months in the Summer/Fall of 2013.
