Located within 10 miles of I-10 on the West side of downtown Mobile, the Charleston Apartments project is ideally located off a local roadway in a residential area. The property used for this project has a lot of grade changes and several walls were required in order to obtain enough useable land to build the number of complexes and parking lots required. Several of the walls were located very close to the edge of the buildings. The challenges of this project required a competent design/build wall company that could address the needs of the Owner.

Synergy was selected by Heritage and Summit to provide the design and construction services for this project. The installation of the walls appeared to be straightforward until groundwater was discovered along one section where 3 retaining walls had to be installed. Synergy was able to make a recommendation to the Owner regarding a groundwater collection system which was ultimately approved for use on the project by the Owner’s geotechnical engineer. This project had a lot of “field modifications” that we required by the Owner and Synergy was able to address each request in a timely and professional manner that allowed the project construction to continue moving forward. Several new walls were added to the project and Synergy assisted EDS with the layout of the walls to minimize the cost to the Owner. The final layout of the walls resulted in approximately 13,000 sf of retaining wall with a maximum height of 17’. The project was successfully completed in late Summer of 2010.
